McClendon Still Looking Around

Many top-notch recruits make early commitments only to take official visits to several different schools down the line. Add the top offensive lineman from the state of Tennessee to this growing list.

Like most prep stars from Tennessee, Jacques McClendon, OG, 6-3, 325-pounds, Chattanooga, Tenn., (Baylor School) decided to attend Tennessee. That is, he made that decision and is now planning to take his five allotted visits.

"I'm definitely taking all five of my official visits," McClendon commented when asked how soon he would make a final decision.

Will McClendon take any official visits during the regular season?

"I might take one or two of my official visits during the season," he replied.

"The coaches can start calling me again on Thursday (Sept. 1) so I guess I'll have all my official visits set up in the next two or three weeks," McClendon continued.

McClendon certainly has many options. Besides Tennessee, which will definitely receive an official visit from him down the road, several other prominent programs are under consideration.

"There are a lot of schools sending me mail all the time," McClendon said. "Notre Dame, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Louisiana State, Southern California…"

McClendon plays both offensive tackle and defensive tackle in high school but expects to play either offensive guard or possibly center in college.

McClendon has a self-reported 3.0 GPA and a 22 ACT. He is thinking about majoring in business or business management.

SMITTY'S TAKE - McClendon is a wellspoken young man. It was fun talking to him about his high school football team and the game against Brentwood Academy he has coming up.

Tennessee has to be the favorite for McClendon's services, but if he does follow through with taking all five of his official visits, Notre Dame does have a chance to at least have him come to South Bend for one of them. Offensive line coach John Latina is recruiting McClendon for the Irish. Top Stories
