Wenger Undecided on Visits

Offensive lineman Daniel Wenger's St. Thomas high school team is off to a fast start, and the 6-4, 285-pound interior lineman says he's letting recruiting take a back seat to his season at this point. That hasn't stopped college coaches from calling, and Wenger was expecting a call from a head coach when we caught up with him Monday night.

Offensive lineman Daniel Wenger says his team is off to a good start for his final season for St. Thomas high school in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

"We're 2-0 right now," Wenger said. "I just play offensive line.

"I haven't really thought about it," Wenger said when asked if he's narrowed down his list of schools. "I'm really just focused on my team and having a great season. I'll probably get more into recruiting when that starts picking up at the end of the season."

We asked Wenger if the Irish were still actively recruiting him at this point.

"Coach Weis is actually supposed to call me any minute now," he said.

Wenger also mentioned he's been impressed with Notre Dame's start to the season.

"It's hard to pass up a place like Notre Dame with all their tradition and academics<" said Wenger. "Then you look at what coach Weis is doing with the program there and it's hard not to notice that. I've been very impressed with what I've seen from Notre Dame."

Wenger did say he hasn't started setting up his visits yet.

"I'll do that later down the road," he said. "It will all depend on how our team finishes. I might be able to take one or two in-season official visits. I'll have to see about that. It will depend on how my team does in the playoffs as to when I'll take my visits."

When will Wenger start setting up visits?

"I'll probably do that pretty soon," he said.

Will he likely visit Notre Dame with one of his five official visits?

"Oh, definitely," Wenger said.

Comments: Wenger seemed pretty excited about Notre Dame when I spoke with him, definitely more excited than he has in my previous conversations. I wouldn't doubt if he set an official visit with Notre Dame last night. We'll check back with him soon to see if he has set his official visit to Notre Dame.
