College football coaches love linebackers with speed. That helps explain why Anthony Lewis is being so heavily recruited. The Haltom City, Texas linebacker is now up to 6-3, 230-pounds. That size will ensure more and more interest from college coaches this fall all the way through National Signing Day.
"Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State," answered Lewis when asked which schools remain on his list of schools.
Lewis has actually begun to setup his official visits. Like many other recruits across the country, Lewis will be taking game day official visits.
"I'm going to Notre Dame on the 15th (of October), and (Texas) A&M on the 1st (of October)," Lewis said of his official visit plans. "The Notre Dame visit is when they play SC (Southern California). I'm not sure who (Texas) A&M plays."
"I haven't set my other official visits (to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State)," Lewis continued. I just haven't set the dates yet."
Two head coaches have been in contact with Lewis this month.
"I've talked to coach Franchione. He is a nice guy who cares about his players," said Lewis. "I also spoke to coach Weis. Coach Weis knows what he's doing. He knows how to get the most out of his players."
Distance from home is often times a concern with Texas recruits for the Irish. According to Lewis, that will not be the case with him.
"It doesn't really matter," Lewis said of staying close to home for college or going away. "Whatever the best situation is for me (I'll do it)."
As for a college major, Lewis is not quite sure.
"Something with math," he said. "I want to come back to my high school and coach."
