West Picks Notre Dame

Oklahoma City, Okla. athlete George West hadn't planned on committing to the Notre Dame coaches on Wednesday, but he just felt like it was the right time and that Notre Dame was the right school.

George West has been making plays for Northeast Academy this year, and next year he wants to make plays for the Fighting Irish.

"I was going to have a press conference next Thursday to announce with my buddy Dominique Franks, but I just decided to let the coaches know last night."

"I spoke with coach Haywood and then I called coach Weis," West said. "It feels good. It feels like I got a huge burden off my shoulders.

"I was going to take some other visits, but I knew Notre Dame is where I wanted to go, so I didn't want to drag it out."

Notre Dame was initially recruiting West as a wide receiver, but he recently told me that they started talking about bringing him in as an athlete and letting him find his position once he got onto campus. The Irish would likely try him at cornerback on defense.

Comments: West has been making big plays this year. George has returned 3 punts and 2 kick-offs for touchdowns. He has 2 receiving touchdowns and an interception.
