The Irish are coming off an emotionally draining loss to Michigan State last week. Washington registered their first win under new head coach Tyrone Willingham against Idaho a week ago.
Is Notre Dame's confidence shaken after such a difficult loss? Did Washington gain some confidence heading into this game?
"The Ty Bowl." Willingham versus Weis. Eh……
What I find amusing so far is nobody seems to really care about this game other than Notre Dame and Washington fans, and probably rightfully so. I just don't see this as a big game in the grand scheme of things.
The story of this contest will be in the trenches I believe. I think one team will dominate the line of scrimmage and I believe that will be Notre Dame.
Washington does have some talent, and I fully expect them to be mentally prepared for this game. However, I also believe Irish head coach Charlie Weis will have this Irish team in the right state of mind on Saturday.
So this game should come down to plays and which team makes more. Turnovers could be a key but both teams are pretty good at protecting the football.
So far the Huskies haven't proven they can beat a quality football team. The Irish have proven that in their win on the road against Michigan.
Factor in coaching and talent and I believe the Irish will have a sizable advantage on Saturday.
Notre Dame should get their running game going again this week as Washington is somewhat banged up on the defensive line and didn't have much depth to begin with. If the Irish can run the football effectively, they'll win the football game.
I just can't see how Washington's offense can out score Notre Dame's. I really think it's that simple.
Funnily, I just don't have a lot to say about this game, and I think that's really the story so far of this week. I'm not sure anyone really cares other than Irish and Husky fans. I think ND wins and wins rather handily.
