Marsh Looking to Take in Big Game

Recruiting has taken a back seat for defensive end prospect Lawrence Marsh of Josey high school (Augusta, Ga.)., because he wants to concentrate on his last season of high school football. The lone open date of his season happens to occur the same day as a big football game in South Bend.

While most recruits are busy scheduling their official visits so that they have them lined up before the end of there season, Lawrence Marsh is taking his time.

"Pretty much the same," he said of his recruiting status. "I haven't been talking to a lot of schools. I've told them I want to concentrate on my senior season. They can call and check in and I'll let them know where they stand, but I let them know I'm trying to focus on my senior year. When the time comes to make a decision I'll make a decision.

In my August interview with Lawrence he said that he was attempting to set up a visit to Notre Dame for the USC game. If he does firm up his plans, he will be one of many big-time players that will be attending that weekend.

"I've already talked to the coaches about it," he said. "So all they need to do is let me know when my flight is. Next time we talk it will be set.

"The Notre Dame-USC game is during my bye week. We only have two more games, so I'll probably start setting more visits then.

"I'm pretty wide open, but I know Notre Dame is a big-time school and I want to check it out. My whole family might come, my mom, pops, sister and brother. It all depends on the timing of the flight. If things work out, everyone will be going. If it doesn't, it'll just be my mom."

Lawrence hasn't had many opportunities to watch Notre Dame because he lives in ACC country, but he was able to watch the one game they played at home.

"I watched the Michigan State game, that turnover on the one-yard line, if it wasn't for that they would have won the game," Marsh said. "They look like they're playing for coach Weis. I'm not sure what they put in the water up there, but they're playing for him."

Marsh is certain that he'll visit Notre Dame officially, but does he know which schools will get his other official visits.

"All the other big-time schools" he said when asked which schools he was considering for his other official visits. "All the schools around here, Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, and I'm looking at Purdue – they're really interested in me.

Comments: Lawrence is a little difficult to read, but he does like Notre Dame quite a bit, as evidenced by the fact that it is the lone visit he has set up at this time. While he said that the Notre Dame-USC game was being played on a convenient date, there are a lot of football games on October 15. He also appears to be staying in close contact with the Irish staff.
