The big Southern California recruiting weekend is now over. While many media members and fans alike will talk solely about the game, Richard Jackson reflected upon the entire experience from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon.
"It was good," Jackson said of his official visit. "It was real good."
The Notre Dame campus is certainly unique, especially for someone who has never seen it before. Jackson was certainly impressed with what he saw during his first visit to the South Bend campus.
"When they were showing us around, it grabbed my attention seeing all those old buildings with all the paintings on the windows," Jackson said of his best memory of the visit.
A familiar landmark was also mentioned.
"Touchdown Jesus," Jackson answered quickly as to what was his favorite part of the Notre Dame campus.
The game atmosphere itself not only impressed Jackson, it surprised him a little bit too.
"It was crazy!," Jackson said bluntly. "The fans were really into it. It was crazy…"
Jackson is now veteran at one of the more well known student traditions during a Notre Dame football game, doing pushups in the crowd.
"At first I wasn't going to do it," Jackson said with a laugh. "But this guy came up to me and said, ‘your next,'"
Jackson was somewhat surprised that the Irish hung with the Trojans all game long, but it is not surprising which Irish player impressed him the most.
"Jeff Samardzija," he said.
Could Jackson see himself playing for Notre Dame?
"Yeah," Jackson admitted.
Did Jackson feel comfortable at Notre Dame?
"Yeah, definitely," he proclaimed.
Most recruits prefer to play during their freshman season. Jackson falls in line with this thinking, and he now knows what the Notre Dame coaching staff expects of him if he signs with Notre Dame and is to see the field next year for the Irish.
"They said if I come there and work hard I could possibly play (my freshman year)," Jackson said of his conversation with the Notre Dame coaching staff about playing time.
Jackson's decision timeframe has yet to be decided, but he is drawing closer to making his college choice.
"Probably after I visit Miami," he said of when he will likely decide. "But I don't when I'll visit there yet."
Jackson hung around James Aldridge, Zach Frazer and Terrence Austin amongst many other recruits that were also at the game this past Saturday. He also visited with administrators from the History Department before leaving campus.
