Marques Wilkins made it to South Bend for an unofficial visit for the USC game and saw one of the best college football games of the year.
"I went with my dad and a friend. We had a good time, it was a great game," Wilkins said. "I thought Notre Dame was going to pull it off, because of the way USC had been playing; how they were letting teams play with them in the first half, and I didn't think that ND would let them come back if they played like that, but that wasn't how things went."
The Irish were interested in Marques prior to him committing to the University of Illinois, but they weren't ready to offer him a scholarship. Now that the football season has moved on and recruiting is starting to take shape, does he have renewed interest in playing for the Irish?
"I got a tape up there and he said they were going to evaluate it and call me sometime during the week and let me know how things went," he explained. "I wouldn't de-commit and say that I'm going to Notre Dame. It wouldn't come down to a decision like that. If it (offer) would have been earlier it might have been a different situation, but right now I don't think it will happen at the spur of the moment.
"I sat with Ramone Johnson, Chris James, and Demetrius Jones. Demetrius was upset that they lost, but he was excited by the way they played. I've gotten to know Chris James a lot. We've hung out a lot.
Wilkins' season receiving totals aren't going to catch people's eyes because he team runs the option and he is utilized out of the slot, but he put up big numbers in MacArthur's last contest.
"I played receiver for the first time last game," he explained "I had eight catches for 204 yards and four touchdowns. I think I'm over twenty touchdowns on the season. That includes an interception and a punt return. I don't ever get a chance to return kicks though, because they won't kick to me."
Comments: Wilkins certainly has interest in Notre Dame otherwise he wouldn't have brought them a highlight tape. The Irish haven't offered him yet, but it is possible that he will get one if their other recruiting prospects fall off.
