A couple months ago several sources had reported that Jason Kates had committed to Notre Dame. Maybe he did or maybe he didn't, but as it stands, most recruiting fans have focused their attention on other defensive line prospects. They may need to refocus their attention on Kates once again.
"Yes there are," Kates replied when asked if Notre Dame was still recruiting him. "In fact I spoke with coach Latina just today."
"We talked about the usual stuff," Kates explained as he described his conversation with Notre Dame offensive line coach.
Kates said that he was still very interested in Notre Dame along with Penn State, Maryland, Michigan State among others. He hasn't taken any official visits, although he did attempt to make another trip to South Bend.
"I was planning on coming in this weekend for the Syracuse game," he said of his plans to take his official visit to Notre Dame. "I had to cancel it because our playoff game was moved from Friday night to Saturday, which means I can't make it."
"I'm not sure when I'll reschedule," Kates continued. "I was thinking about the banquet (December 2), but the championship game is the same weekend.
"I haven't even thought about scheduling any others. We're in the playoffs and that's what I'm thinking about.
Bishop McDevitt (11-0) takes on Hempfield (10-1) this Saturday in Pennsylvania's 3-6 AAAA state semifinal game.
Comments: Jason seems to still be a very viable option for the Notre Dame staff. They don't have many slots remaining, but you can bet at least one is being saved for a defensive tackle prospect. So far the 2006 recruiting class has none.
