Weis Offers Wilson

Notre Dame is looking to build on the success the Irish experienced on the football field and parlay it into recruiting success off the field. Offensive lineman James Wilson of Nease high school (St Augustine, Fla.) is seeing his pile of offers grow day by day. Charlie Weis was on the phone with Wilson late last week and added an Irish scholarship to the mound.

Prior to Friday James Wilson (6-5, 306 pounds) already had received offers from Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Southern Cal, UCLA, Michigan, Maryland, UCF, Georgia Tech, Hawaii and Ole Miss. Notre Dame was nowhere to be seen…until a Friday morning conversation between coach Weis and Wilson.

"They offered yesterday," Wilson responded when asked if he had spoken to the Notre Dame staff. "I was excited. My coach called him on Friday. I talked to coach Weis personally and he offered me a scholarship. It was good.

"It definitely is at the top of my list," Wilson said of the Irish.

There aren't a lot of prospects that get a chance to speak with coach Weis, so it is easy to assume that Wilson is a priority for Notre Dame.

"Yes sir, that was my first time," Wilson said of his conversation with coach Weis. "He said that he saw my film and that he was impressed, so he wanted to offer me. He said he wanted to get me up there for a camp too.

"I'm going up there with one of my coaches. I'm going to go up there and check out the campus and see how I like it. I'm definitely interested to see how I interact with the coaches and all that stuff."
