Another Helix High School Prospect

All-World runningback Reggie Bush gets all the headlines but college coaches are taking notice of another gem at Helix HS in La Mesa, CA. Charles Smith has some impressive offers.

It's always interesting to talk to a prospect who has a teammate who is getting a lot of attention. Charles Smith has no problem with the attention that his good friend Reggie Bush is getting. He is very happy for his friend.

"I am very excited for Reggie. We hang out every day. I didn't think I would get much attention but a lot of schools really seem interested in me as well." Charles seems to handle this all very well. He gets very excited when talking about his recruiting and the attention Reggie receives as well.

"I just wasn't expecting some of my offers. I didn't think Oklahoma would offer or Texas but they have. Washington, Oregon, San Diego State, Wisconsin and Utah also have offered."

Smith had a pretty good year last year catching 28 passes for 511 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 6-1 175 pound wide receiver did go to Nike camp but his time was botched. "I don't know what happened. They got my number screwed up with some other player. I don't think they ever got it figured out." After working a Nike camp, I could see that happening myself.

Charles said Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma and Texas would be his leaders right now. I asked about Notre Dame and various schools, this is what he had to say about Notre Dame. "I really don't know much about the school at all. They have a great tradition, I know that. If they offered me, I would consider them. I have family in Indiana and I plan to go there this summer so I might stop by the school."

Charles said he didn't want to commit early. He said would go to the Midwest to school but couldn't see himself going as far as the East Coast. He has a 3.1 core and 860 on his first attempt at the SAT.

Comments. I think Notre Dame would have a shot if they offered. Probably a better shot if Reggie also went to Notre Dame. He is a quality kid that is really enjoying the process. He doesn't seem excited about any single school so I think he is open to anyone. Top Stories
