Martin Gets Visit from Weis Top-100 defensive end prospect Ben Martin of La Salle high school (Cincinnati, Ohio) will have a wave of coaches visit him during the recruiting evaluation period that recently started. Charlie Weis promised to be on the road as soon as spring practice ended, and true to his word, the Irish head coach was making visits Monday morning.

There was a strong vibe coming from Notre Dame stadium last Saturday during the Blue-Gold Football Game. It could have been the beautiful spring weather, but more than likely it was the recruiting machine of Charlie Weis and his staff warming up. Yesterday was the first day the Irish coaching staff was on the road and one of Notre Dame's first stops was to visit Ben Martin (6-6, 220-pounds)

"I saw him for a second," said Martin when asked about the Irish head coach. "I didn‘t get a chance to really talk to him. I guess he talked to my coach, but I didn't talk to him. That was pretty much it."

Although coaches are allowed to visit high schools, the contact they are allowed to have with prospects is very limited.

Martin had just visited Notre Dame a couple weeks earlier, and many thought he take this past weekend to visit Ohio State last weekend for their spring game.

"I didn't go anywhere this weekend, I didn't check out any games," Martin explained. "I stayed home and relaxed. It's nice to relax sometimes.

"Right now I'm in the weight room, working hard. I might take a visit somewhere later this summer, but as far as anything in the near future, I don't have anything planned right now. I'm just trying to finish this school year."

As a junior Martin had about 50 tackles, 12 sacks and 10 tackles for loss. Top Stories
