Richetti Jones gets Visit from Notre Dame

Charlie Weis and his staff have been out pounding the pavement since the day spring practice ended. Last week they stopped at Lincoln high school in Dallas, Texas to check in on one of the top defensive ends in the country, Richetti Jones.

Richetti Jones (6-3, 225-pounds) received a scholarship offer from Notre Dame a of weeks ago, so the next step for the Notre Dame coaching staff was to make a visit to his high school.

"Coach Oliver and coach Weis came in last week," Jones recalled of his visit from the Irish coaching staff. "They couldn't talk to me. They just eyeballed me. They didn't stay for practice, but they talked to my coaches. They said they wanted me to come to Notre Dame and wanted to find out if I had any interest."

With scholarship offers from the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, LSU, and Baylor, Jones will have his pick of top football programs. The question is whether Richetti has interest in taking his game to South Bend.

"Oh yeah, I have interest in Notre Dame," Jones responded when asked his interest level in the Irish. "It's wide open for me. I'm not locking myself into one team. I'm going to wait for the college season to begin so I can check everyone out. Everybody asks me what my top teams are and I say ‘All the schools that offered me.'

"I'm just going to see how it goes. When you're younger, you see the teams on TV and say ‘Yeah, I'm going to go there or I'm going to go here.' But when it really comes time to make your decision, it isn't that easy.

"All the teams that offered me want me as a defensive end," he added.

Jones is still planning on graduating in December so that he can enroll in January classes.

As a junior he collected 73 tackles, 16 sacks and 25 tackles for loss in just 10 games.
