At the beginning of April Chris Perry (6-3, 315-pounds) already had scholarship offers from Nebraska, Ole Miss, Colorado State, Arizona, Texas A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma State. Over the last several weeks he has added some big-time offers.
"Florida, Miami, Texas Tech, and Michigan State," Perry said when asked about his most recent offers. "I'm not sure about Notre Dame, coach Oliver said they were real close to offering. He and coach Weis are supposed to be coming next Thursday to see me practice.
"Not much," Perry said of Notre Dame's recruiting activity. "I got a letter from them, but it wasn't hand-written or anything, and we don't really text. They're not recruiting me that hard."
Even if Notre Dame does come through with an offer quickly, the Miami Hurricanes have been Perry's top school for some time and that offer would be difficult to turn down.
"Probably not," replied Perry when asked if he could bypass Miami's scholarship offer. "I'm not trying to commit right now, because they want me to come down to visit before I commit. They said they wouldn't take my commitment as a solid verbal until I came down to see the campus and decide that it was where I really wanted to be.
"They probably want as many commitments as they want, but they aren't pushing me to commit right now."
If there is a change in Perry's plans, there are several schools he will take a hard look at before he decides on his school.
"The next group is probably Florida, Notre Dame and Nebraska. Texas has come down yesterday, but they haven't offered," Perry said
"Visits I have intention on taking this summer are OU [Oklahoma] and Miami. My coach told me that OU came and watched me yesterday."
