Louis Irizarry, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound, tight end from Youngstown (Ohio) Ursiline is considered one of the nations premier prospects regardless of position. Irizarry woke up this morning and made his verbal commitment.
"I called coach (Jim) Tressel this morning and committed to Ohio State." Irizarry said. "I picked Ohio State over Notre Dame, Florida, Oklahoma and Michigan. Notre Dame was my second choice.
"I think I did all the research I could. I looked at it like this. Ohio State is close to home and that's a positive. Plus I'm an Ohio boy. Notre Dame is a good school but they had more tight end's than what people were telling me. I think I definitely will get a chance to play earlier at Ohio State.
"Florida and Oklahoma are both great schools and both have very good football programs but I knew in my heart that I wouldn't go that far away from home. I'm happy to be a Buckeye."
Irizarry will be a four-year varsity starter for Ursiline. He was named all-state as a junior. Louis had more than 25 scholarship offers.
