Sukay Drawing Attention

A lot of college recruiters have had their eye on Nick Sukay of Greensburg Central Catholic high school (Greensburg, Pa.). After several impressive combine performances, Sukay has received the attention of several top programs, including Notre Dame.

Nick Sukay (6-2, 195-pounds) already has offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia, Purdue, UConn, Temple, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Akron, Toledo, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Kentucky, Marshall, West Virginia, Rutgers, and Indiana. Now that coaches have had the opportunity to watch him perform at a couple combines, he expects that list to grow.

"After the Elite combine in New Jersey some of the bigger schools started coming on," Sukay responded when asked if his combine performances had drawn attention from college recruiters. "I did real well and there were a bunch of coaches there.

"I think they thought I was real competitive and that I had more speed than they thought, I ran good routes and I had real good hands."

Originally schools were recruiting Sukay as a defensive back. That has changed as nearly all the colleges are looking at him at wide receiver. Notre Dame is one of the schools that is now hotly pursuing Nick and he feels the Irish might be on the verge of offering him a scholarship.

"I have a feeling that they're going to soon, but I'm not positive yet," replied Sukay when asked if the Notre Dame coaches had discussed a scholarship offer. "Coach Latina, I haven't talked to him a whole lot. I've had brief contact with him, but he said they were real interested.

"I'm definitely interested [in Notre Dame]. I was out there about two months ago, but I really didn't get a real good look at it. That's why I want to do when I go out there again. Once I check it out I'll have a better idea.

"I didn't get a chance to really get to know the coaches because they were busy practicing," Sukay continued. "There was a coach's clinic and we watched them practice one day. I said ‘hi' to them and everything, but we only talked real briefly. That's what I want to do when I go out there again. I want to talk to them a little bit."

Hopefully Sukay does make another visit to South Bend because he wants to end his recruitment fairly soon.

"I'll probably narrow it down to five or six within a couple weeks," Sukay explained of his decision process. "I probably won't be able to take my official visits because I'll probably commit before the season.

"Everyone's pretty much even right now, there are no favorites," he added. Top Stories
