David Marrero Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame receives it first commitment from St. Thomas Aquinas runningback David Marrero. The Fort Lauderdale, FL all-purpose back brings some much needed speed to the Notre Dame backfield.

David Marrero is a 5-10 185 pound running back. He ran an electrifying 4.34 at the Nike camp in Miami this year. David visited a lot of schools during the summer including Michigan, Michigan State, NorthWestern, Notre Dame and Stanford. Marrero visited Notre Dame in June and recently narrowed his decision down to Notre Dame and Stanford.

"I committed on July 4th. I just called coach Willingham and told him I was committing. Very early on, even before both offered, I knew my two favorite schools were Notre Dame and Stanford. I went to both schools and really enjoyed both places. When I went to Notre Dame, I got to meet the coaching staff and the players and it felt like the perfect fit for me. I felt really comfortable there."

I asked David about the story leaking and this is what he had to say. "My coach and I thought we would keep it quiet. We didn't want a lot of publicity effecting our team so we thought we would try to keep it quiet. Once a lot of places started reporting that I was rumored to be committing, we thought we might as well get it over with."

David said he wanted to commit early and help Notre Dame. "I wanted to commit early. I hope that by me committing, it will create a domino effect with others. I hope that my commitment might help other players decide."

David is a fine addition to the Notre Dame recruiting class. ND landed a great one with this commitment. Do not discount this player because I have been told he was at the very top of the wish list. Great #1 get for Willingham and his staff. He could not have landed a better player or person with his first commitment.
