Irish interested in Brooks

Notre dame hasn't sent out many scholarship offers to wide receivers for the 2007 recruiting class. In fact, the invitations have been held for the elite athletes. During the May evaluation period the Irish staff took a look at Ron Brooks of MacArthur high school (Irving, Texas) and they liked what they saw.

The Notre Dame staff has been looking high and low for dynamic athletes and they may have found one in Ron Brooks (5-11, 170-pounds)

"They've been recruiting me and I know they've been looking at me for a little bit," responded Brooks when asked Notre Dame's interest in him. "Coach Weis came down here and said he wanted to offer me a scholarship. He couldn't really talk to me because of all the rules, but he wanted to let me know how interested he was in me, which is why he came down here personally.

"They're recruiting me at wide receiver and punt returner. That's what I want to do. I started at wide receiver my junior year and I was the leading receiver on the team.

"I know they're a great academic and a great athletic program," Brooks explained. "I just know they're all about academics and athletics. They're definitely a school I want to look at.

Recruiting fans want to find new names at every turn. If that is the case then they should like Brooks.

"When I walked up to the office and saw coach Weis was there I was blown away," described Brooks. "I didn't even think he knew who I was, but to have the head coach of Notre Dame, and him being who he is, and that he came to see me, and that he's personally recruiting me, that meant a lot to me.

"He said he just wanted to get me on campus this summer. He wants me to take an unofficial visit."

Brooks reports scholarship offers from more than twenty colleges including Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Purdue, LSU, Iowa, and Iowa State.

As a junior Brooks had 43 catches for 778 yards and 13 touchdowns.
