Arrelious Benn (6-foot-2, 190-pounds) is a winner and he'd like to continue his winning way in college. For now he'll happily accept the championship trophy from an invitation only passing tournament that was recently held in Atlanta (Ga.)
"We did good, we won. We actually won it last year and this year," responded Benn when asked about his performance at the all-star passing tournament. "It was sponsored by high school player development. There were eight teams altogether. There were teams from New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey, two teams from Atlanta, and New Orleans.
Arrelious recently returned from Southern California where he took a peek at one of the top programs in the country, USC. He's had already been to Notre Dame twice to see the talent Charlie Weis had on campus, and he recently went to Illinois to check out what Ron Zook had cooking in Champaign.
"I just came from Illinois not too long ago," explained Benn. "I watched them throw and stuff like that, so I've pretty much saw everything that I needed to see. Illinois' definitely the underdog. I know if I go there I'll be an immediate impact. Actually, I think anywhere I go I'll be an impact player.
Arrelious is currently taking summer school. Once he completes English IV he'll be on track to graduate from high school in December. There is a lot of football to be played until that time, and there are a lot of recruiting pitches to be made by college coaches. In order to avoid a distraction to his teammates, Arrelious is planning to announce his college choice prior to his season.
"I'm going to make my decision on my birthday, September 6," Benn commented when asked to confirm his announcement date.
Make sure you listen to Arrelious tonight on Irish Eyes Power Hour at 8:00 p.m. EST.
As a junior Benn had 49 catches for over 1,100 yards and 16 touchdowns.
