Griffen lands Irish offer's No.1-rated defensive end, Everson Griffen of Agua Fria high school (Avondale, Ariz.), has the ability to play a number of positions in college. He wants to play defensive end, and if given the chance, he has the ability to make an impact as a freshman.

Notre Dame had been recruiting Everson Griffen (6-foot-4, 265 pounds) for some time, but until recently they didn't get serious with him.

"They offered me," Griffen replied when asked about his recent contact with Notre Dame. "They called my coach and then I talked to coach Weis. He was cool. He was calm and collected because he's been up in the NFL. He's just like coach Carroll. They come out straight to the front and don't hold nothing back. They tell you what you need to do and the things you need to work on.

"I knew [Notre Dame] would offer eventually. They aren't high on my list, but they're on my list."

With the 2006 season rapidly approaching recruits need to start scheduling their official visits.

"USC, UCLA, and Notre Dame," Griffen listed as the schools that he would likely visit officially. "I want to see the games to see what the atmosphere is like. I'm going to call the coaches and see when I can schedule them.

As a junior Griffen registered 47 tackles (30 solo), including five sacks and recovered three fumbles. Offensively, he gained nearly 1,000 all-purpose yards, posting 794 yards on the ground and 168 in pass receptions with nine total touchdowns. Top Stories
