Irish in play for Thompson's No.8 wide receiver, Deonte Thompson, of Glades Central high school (Belle Glade, Fla.), has game changing ability. While Notre Dame has become a big-play offense since Charlie Weis has arrived, adding a player of Thompson's caliber would make Notre awfully dangerous.

Looking at the list of wide receivers that are interested in playing at Notre Dame is mind-boggling. It will likely surprise many recruiting fans that the Irish are still in contention for speedster Deonte Thompson (5-foot-11, 186 pounds).

"It's been a couple of weeks since I talked to the coaches, but Notre Dame is still in the game," Thompson said of his interest in Notre Dame. "It's the offense. They put guys in the league and that's what it's all about."

Thompson has mentioned Florida, Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, USC, South Carolina, and LSU as schools that he has been focusing on, but he isn't quite ready to narrow his list to five. When he does, it is likely that the Irish will find their way on his travel itinerary.

"There's a great chance," Thompson replied when asked if there was a chance he would take an official visit to Notre Dame. "I haven't started looking at dates yet, but I will soon.

"I not sure of any of my other visits yet," he added.

As a junior, Deonte had 35 catches season for 767 yards. He also had 12 kick returns for 515 yards and two touchdowns. Top Stories
