Acho is a name on the rise

Defensive end prospect Sam Acho from St. Mark's School of (Dallas) Texas entered the summer with a couple solid scholarship offers, but as we enter the final stretch leading up to football season he has seen his stock rise more than any other prospect in the country.

There haven't been a lot of new names that have surfaced for Notre Dame, but a recruit to keep an eye on is Sam Acho (6-foot-2, 248 pounds). The Texan doesn't have a scholarship offer from the Irish, but he is hoping one will come soon.

"I got in touch with one of the Notre Dame coaches a couple weeks ago and I think my coach is in the process of sending them my tape," Acho responded when asked if he had spoken with the Irish staff. "I really didn't talk to the coaches in depth. They showed some interest and just wanted to see the tape.

"I'm extremely interested in Notre Dame and I'm hoping that they offer. I need to talk to the coaches again and see where they stand, but I'm very interested in Notre Dame. They have a great academic program and the have an amazing football team. I really don't know much more, but I'm hoping to learn more as I go on."

Acho currently plays defensive end and tight end. He appears to have the ability to play several positions at the next level and even college coaches haven't decided where he'll play.

"Some are recruiting me for defensive end, some at tight end and some at linebacker," Acho explained. "Some schools want to get me in a see where I fit, but others already have and idea of where they want me to play. I wouldn't mind playing any three of those positions as long as the school that I go to uses that position. I don't want to go to a school that doesn't use their tight end."

Once Notre Dame receives Acho's film they will need to make a quick decision. Acho has several top offers and he's starting to decide which schools will receive his official visits.

"I have offers from Texas, USC, Virginia, Stanford, Nebraska, SMU, TCU, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Kansas State, and Tulsa. There might be a couple more that I can't think of right now," Acho said. "I'm going to try to figure that out my visits the next couple weeks."

Acho doesn't plan on graduating early so he isn't in a rush to make a decision.

"I think I'm going to enjoy my senior year," he replied when asked about his graduation plans. "I play other sports also. I play basketball in the winter and then do shot and discus in the spring so I'll just enjoy my last year." Top Stories
