Major Wright focused on his season

Major Wright of St. Thomas Aquinas high school (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) is the type of defensive back the Irish need in order to elevate the program to the next level.'s No. 10 safety prospect is being recruited by all the top programs, but for now Wright is focused on his senior season.

Major Wright (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) has mentioned Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, Miami and USC as the primary schools that he is considering. While most recruits are firming up their official visits and their top-five, Wright is going to wait until the end of his season before he narrows his college options.

"No sir, I don't have a top-five, but Notre Dame will be in the mix the whole way," Wright said when asked about his interest in the Irish. "They're right in the mix with all the other schools.

"I haven't talked to anyone about setting visits. Right now I'm concentrating on completing my senior year, helping the team as much as I can and I'm trying to stay focused."

Wright has his focus directed on his football season, but he will take the time to watch his former teammate, Sam Young, start the first game of his college career.

"The Irish have a game Saturday night. I'll definitely watch Sam Young," Wright said. "I know he's a talented player and he's a hard worker so I know he's going to do well up there.

"We already started last Friday. We did pretty good. We beat Cypress Bay 31-3. I played the whole game, but I only had five tackles. Our defense has a lot of talent on it though. We've got good linebackers, corners and our defensive line is very talented.

Major Wright and his teammates will be back in action this Friday when they travel to play Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) at 4:00 p.m. EST.

As a junior, Wright finished with six picks, 60 tackles, three blocked punts and 10 tackles-for-a-loss. Top Stories
