Nwankwo looking for a date

Andrew Nuss has already given his pledge to the Notre Dame football program, but the Irish will need to add at least three additional offensive linemen to their 2007 recruiting class. Emeka Nwankwo of Chaminade Madonna College Prep (Hollywood, Fla.) is one of the prospects the Irish staff has targeted, but they are in a battle with several top programs.

Emeka Nwankwo (6-foot-5, 270 pounds) was hoping to make his college decision by the start of his football season. That was the plan, but he wasn't able to arrange a visit to on of his top schools.

"At one time that was true, but I never took a visit to Notre Dame," Nwankwo said of his of decision to move his announcement back. "I kept trying to find a date to visit, but it never worked out.

"I've talked to them about coming up for an official visit. They've given me different dates for different games. I've put it past my coach, but he hasn't given me an answer yet. We're still working at it. It will probably depend on the team we play that week.

"I'd like to come up to the Michigan game," Emeka said. "But I talked to coach Weis and he said I could come up for the Stanford game. The coaches have a bye week after the Stanford game, so they will be around on Sunday, and I'd be able to talk to them more than I would on another weekend.

Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, Virginia and Georgia are the primary schools Nwankwo is considering. He doesn't have any additional visits scheduled, but he will see one of those teams play this weekend.

"Nothing has really changed lately, everything is pretty much the same. I'm trying to focus on the season," Nwankwo replied when asked about his recruitment. "I haven't visited Florida State. I would have liked to have visited them this weekend, but I'm going to the Miami vs. Florida State game on Monday."

Nwanwko and his teammates have a bye this weekend, but they started the season with an impressive win against Everglades high school (Miramar, Fla)

Our first game was last week Friday and we beat a team 34-6. We played real good. I only played offense because there wasn't any need to play both sides in that game.

Chaminade Madonna's next game is at home versus Washington high school (Miami)
