Griffen scheduling visits's No.1-rated defensive end, Everson Griffen of Agua Fria high school (Avondale, Ariz.) will get a chance to play just about anywhere he wants. Notre Dame is interested in getting him on campus to show the defensive standout what the university has to offer.

The Irish didn't offer Everson Griffen (6-foot-4, 265 pounds) a scholarship as soon as most programs, but Everson expect it to come at some point. Once the offer came the Irish jumped in amongst his leaders, but it will take a big impression to snatch him from the West Coast.

vIn order to make their case, the Notre Dame staff will have to get Griffen on campus. That appears to be close to happening.

"I think I'm going to schedule my visits next week," Griffen replied when asked about his official visits. "For sure I'm going to visit USC, Notre Dame and UCLA. The other two visits I really don't know yet."

With the opening of college football the past weekend Griffen had an opportunity to watch two of his favorite in action.

"USC looked good, they blew out Arkansas 50- 14," Griffen said. "They started slow and then opened it up like they usually do. I was impressed with what they did without Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush. They still have Dwayne Jarrett, Steve Smith and everybody else.

"I watched the Notre Dame game too. They did good. Brady Quinn and Jeff Samardzija played good, but the line has to protect Quinn more. He got hit a lot and that's not good. Their defense did really well. They held Georgia Tech to 10 points and Georgia Tech is has a lot of speed."

Griffen and his teammates have jumped out to a 2-0 start. In the two games Griffen has 20 tackles and 5 sacks. On offense he has rushed for 177 yards and 5 touchdowns. Top Stories
