Joe Thomas, a 6-foot-8, 270-pound, offensive lineman from Brookfield (WI) Central will be one of the most sought after prospects in the Midwest. Thomas has several scholarship offers and he's yet to narrow his college choices.
"Wisconsin, USC, Purdue, Iowa, Northwestern, California, Notre Dame and Colorado have offered me a scholarship." Thomas said. "I'm looking at these schools plus Miami (Fla.) Stanford and Florida State.
"I haven't narrowed anything down yet. I'm going to wait and take my visits in December before making my decision. I've made it clear to all schools that are recruiting me that I want to participate in track & field as well as football."
Brookfield Central head coach Rick Synold had this to say about his blue-chip recruit.
"He's (Thomas) a four-year varsity starter in football and he also participates in basketball and track & field." Synold said. "I feel that Joe can play tight end, defensive end or offensive tackle at the next level.
"Joe can move well for his size and he has tremendous hands."
Thomas camped at Notre Dame this summer and he ran a 4.78 40-yard dash. He carries a 3.5 GPA and he scored a 1200 on his SAT.
August 7, 2002 – Thomas now reports -
"I've got it pretty much narrowed down to Notre Dame, Colorado, Wisconsin, Purdue and USC." Joe Thomas said.
"I don't have a leader and I haven't set up any official visits yet. Nebraska was my latest scholarship offer."
All favorites have offered a scholarship. Look for Thomas to take his official visits during and after the season and he'll probably make his decision closer to signing day.
