Jason Ford (6-foot-0, 215 pounds) is already receiving mail from all the top programs in the country. He has a scholarship offer from Kansas State and he has been to South Bend to take a look at the Irish program.
"Florida State, Kansas State, Michigan and Tennessee are all up there with Notre Dame," Ford replied when asked which schools had caught his attention at this stage of his recruitment. "I went to Notre Dame's seven-on-seven camp this summer and I talked to all the coaches.
"I went on an unofficial visit when they played Michigan. Michigan pretty much dominated them that game, but I've watched every other game and I still like them a lot.
"The [Notre Dame] campus is the most impressive that I've seen," Ford explained. "It's my favorite campus so far. I like the atmosphere. Before the game the team walks through campus and everyone cheers them on. I like everything about it really.
"I think it's a place that I'd like to play. It's kind of like my school, they get the running game in, but they also pass. They'll use the pass to open up the run."
It takes some players time to settle in as they get into high school, but Ford was able to complete with the upperclassmen from the outset.
"I think it was my first year starting as a freshman," Ford responded when asked when he realized he might have a shot to play college football. "I was doing pretty good and I realized that I could play right along with the juniors and seniors. From then on I just played my hardest.
"I think I bring a little bit of everything to the field; speed, power, moves. Nobody can track me one-on-one. I break tackles. I've got speed in the open field. I think I'm the total package."
Despite having a young offensive line in front of him, Ford rushed for 1,545 yards on 191 attempts. He scored 17 touchdowns.
