Summers-Gavin Still Traveling

Notre Dame needs to start landing some offensive lineman in order to fill out the 2006 recruiting class. Matt Summers-Gavin of St. Ignatius College Prep (San Francisco, Calif.) is one of Notre Dame's priorities, but he still has official visits to take.

It would help this recruiting class if Notre Dame could get another commitment, but don't count on that person being Matt Summers-Gavin (6-foot-4.5, 275 pounds). Matt probably won't announce his decision until January and he's heading off for an official visit this weekend.

"I'm going to Cal this weekend, November 3," Matt responded when asked if he had scheduled his official visits. "I was going to go to Oregon but I have relatives coming in, so I need to stay local. Cal is only 15 minutes away and it's an easier trip.

"I'll most likely take Oregon when the season ends."

After his visit to Notre Dame, Matt talked about being impressed by the opportunities that the school offered. Those comments were made shortly after his trip, and it isn't unusual for a recruit's opinion of a school to change once the post visit glow wears off.

"I'm not on that high feeling when you just get back, but I'm still really impressed with the school," Matt explained. "They're still at the top of my list and they definitely have a good shot of being the school that I select, but I still need to give Cal and Oregon a chance.

"I'm going to take official visits to each school so I can see what they have to offer. I want to check out the environments at each school and just get a good feel for them. Then I'll go from there and see which school is the best fit for me." Top Stories
