Nwankwo Chooses Notre Dame

Hollywood, Fla. offensive lineman Emeka Nwankwo decided it was time to end his recruitment yesterday and picked up the phone and dialed Irish head coach Charlie Weis to tell him the good news.

"Yes, I did commit to Notre Dame," said Chaminade College Prep high school star Emeka Nwankwo. "I committed yesterday."

Nwankwo said he just felt it was time to make a decision, and after a lot of thought, he finally knew where he wanted to go to school.

"When I went on my visit to Notre Dame, I could just tell," Nwankwo said. "I really liked the tradition at Notre Dame, and I really liked the coaching staff. They really made me feel comfortable up there.

"I really liked the players, and they made me feel comfortable. Academics was a big part, too."

Nwankwo said he talked it over with his family and then made the phone call.

"I called coach Weis yesterday to tell him," the 6-foot-5, 280-poiund offensive guard prospect said. "He was really excited about it. He said he couldn't wait to get me up there. My family was really excited about it as well. They're real happy for me."

So this is the end of the line for Nwankwo?

"My recruitment is officially over," he said. "I'm 100 percent committed to Notre Dame. It's Notre Dame and nobody else. I won't be taking any more visits. I'm going to Notre Dame."
