At Last. Irish Land Defensive Tackle

Defensive tackle Ian Williams of Lyman High School (Longwood, Fla.) ended his recruitment today as he announced his decision to attend Notre Dame.

Scout.com's No. 41 ranked defensive tackle, Ian Williams (6-foot-2, 300 pounds) becomes the 13th known commitment for the Irish and a very important addition to the defense. The Irish are dangerously thin upfront on defense and Williams has the ability to see the field early in his career.

"There were a couple things," Williams responded when asked why he had selected Notre Dame. "The depth chart; I would have a chance to come in and play or fight for a starting position right away.

"It's a great school. The academics are by far the best and I can go anywhere with a degree from Notre Dame.

"The coaches are great. With coach Weis I think we're going to win a national championship within the next couple years.

Williams made a second visit to South Bend this past weekend. The Notre Dame players made an impression on him and he knows he'll have at least two other Floridians in his recruiting class.

"I've been talking to Richard Jackson and he's pretty cool. Geroge West I feel I get along with really well. I know that Emeka [Nwankwo] and Armando [Allen] are going to be in the recruiting class, and we're going to get a bunch of other great players. This class is going to be a great class."
