Mike Adams Snags Irish Offer

Offensive tackle prospect Mike Adams of Dublin Coffman High School (Ohio) will be one of the top prospects in the country. This past weekend Adams made his way to South Bend for Notre Dame's first junior day and walked away with a scholarship offer.

The Notre Dame coaching staff hasn't issued a lot of scholarship offers, but Mike Adams (6-foot-7, 300 pounds) has one of them. The agile big man made his third trip to Notre Dame this weekend, and didn't leave disappointed.

"It was good," Adams said of his junior day visit. "As soon as we got there they pulled me aside. My mom and I went into coach Weis' office and he offered me. I told him thank you and that it's and honor. They told me that it was kind of a possibility so I was kind of expecting it.

"It was good to tour the campus and getting to see everything that was out there. I thought the whole campus was nice. All the tradition that they have up there is great and it's something that would be an honor to be a part of no matter where you're from or who you are."

"Coach Weis told me he thinks that I'm athletic enough to be a tackle in their program," Adams said. "Protecting their quarterback is obviously important in their offense because they pass a lot. He said that I was a Notre Dame kind of guy, a good kid that cares about sports as well as academics. I guess I fit into their program."

Adams does fit the Notre Dame program, but he was surprised when talking to Reuben Mendoza about the Notre Dame strength and conditioning program.

"The thing that surprised me was that their entire weight program is dedicated to keeping their linemen healthy," Adams explained. "Their strength coach (Mendoza) was a NFL lineman, so he kind of tailors everything to them. That's not something that you see a lot.

"Coach Latina is a good guy. We're originally from Pennsylvania and we're from around the same area in Pennsylvania, so we have something in common there. He produces a lot of good lineman. We didn't really talk about his coaching philosophy. He has been [recruiting] a little bit, but I think he'll start being more involved in the weeks to come.

Adams and his Dublin teammates visited Notre Dames two summers ago and then he and Jake Stoneburner made another unofficial visit for the Michigan game this fall. Although this was his third visit to Notre Dame, Mike expects to be back.

"I'll probably go up there a couple more times between now and next football season to see how I like it there," Adams explained. "I'll go to some other places as well. Then I'll come down to a final decision after that.

"On February 17 I'm going up to Michigan for their junior day. I'd been up there my sophomore year, but there's been a coaching change, so I really just want to get to know the staff a little more and see how I get along with them. I also want to see more of the campus, because I really didn't get a chance to check it out when I was there.

"This summer I know I'll be going down to Florida for their Friday Night Lights camp," he said. "I'd really like to get my decision done at the beginning of next season. I'm going to be graduating in January so wherever I decide to go I need to have my decision done so I can enroll early and start school for spring ball.

"I think Notre Dame will be in my top four until the end, because I've heard nothing but great things about Notre Dame from Brady [Quinn] and ‘Nedu' (Chinedum Ndukwe)."

Adams adds the Notre Dame scholarship offer to Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon. He also has a verbal offer from Florida.
