Cave Gets The Word From Weis

Local product Braxston Cave of Penn High School (Mishawaka, Ind.) was hoping to receive an offer from Notre Dame soon. Michigan offered the standout offensive lineman earlier in the month and Cave got his answer from Notre Dame yesterday.

Notre Dame quarterback coach Ron Powlus joked with Braxston Cave (6-foot-4, 290 pounds) during the first Irish junior day, that Cave was so familiar with the Notre Dame campus that he should lead the campus tours. Now Cave has the chance to become a part of the Notre Dame football program.

"My coach called me when I got home from lifting and told me to call coach Weis. I called coach Weis at home. He asked me how I was doing and I said, "Pretty good."

Then he said, "I'm offering you a scholarship. Now how do you feel?"

I said, "A whole lot better."

Braxston isn't going to make an immediate decision. He has plans to visit Florida March, but after that he could be ready to decide on where he's going to play his college football. Top Stories
