Fleming Makes Return Trip to South Bend

This past weekend Darius Fleming of St. Rita High School (Chicago, Ill.) made the trip to Notre Dame to check out spring practice. It was a big visit for the Irish because Fleming is one of the team's highest priorities on the defensive side of the ball.

Although Darius Fleming (6-foot-3, 230 pounds) lives less than two hours from Notre Dame, he hadn't been to the campus until a couple weeks ago when he came in for a junior day. This past weekend he was back in South Bend with future Notre Dame running back, Robert Hughes.

"I had a real good time," Fleming responded when ask about his recent visit to Notre Dame. "I had a real nice trip. I got to hang around campus a little more. I got a chance to see more of the school. I got a chance to hang out with some of the players and some of the students. We hung out with Demetrius [Jones], Robert [Hughes], Jimmy Clausen, Armando [Allen], Gary Gray and James Aldridge. I'm pretty cool with all of them. I thought I fit in. All of them are pretty cool.

"I watched practice. I liked the practice a lot. It was my first practice. It was real fun. There's a lot talent there. I got see what I'd be playing if I went to Notre Dame and who I'd be competing against and who I'd need to beat out. I learned a lot of stuff this trip."

After hanging out with some of the players, Fleming and Hughes decided to stay the night and see more of the campus. Before leaving Fleming had a chance to meet with Charlie Weis.

"I talked to coach Weis," Fleming explained. "He was telling me how they'd use me and how they needed me. He wasn't rushing me or anything. He was just telling me to make the right decision no matter where I decide to go. He was telling me to take my time and make sure I'm making the right decision.

"I'm going to go home and discuss everything with my dad and see what comes up. I'm just trying to find my niche and then go from there."
