Irish Offer Georgia Wide Receiver

Under Charlie Weis, Notre Dame has been able to attract the attention of the nation's top wide receivers. A new name for Irish fans to keep their eye on is Brice Butler of Norcross High School (Ga.) Butler has offers from all the top programs in the country, including Notre Dame.

Wide receiver Brice Butler (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) has the deadly combination of size and speed. Notre Dame has been aware of the talented receiver and recently stepped up with a scholarship offer.

"Before the season they were sending me letters and stuff, and then my dad's friend started sending my tape out," Butler responded when asked about his contact with Notre Dame. "A couple weeks ago he said that he had sent one to Notre Dame and about two days after he sent it, he said that a Notre Dame coach called.

"I've been texting coach Lewis for a couple weeks and early this week I called him and he told me that coach Weis wanted to talk to me. I kind of got the idea that they were going to offer me. So on Tuesday, I called coach Weis and that's when he told me that they were going to offer me.

"[Weis] said that I was a polished receiver. He said that I know most of the fundamentals and that he wanted a chance to coach me. He's an offensive genius. I know that he has three Super Bowls and he's been coaching in the NFL. He basically said that I was a very polished receiver and that he'd love to coach me."

Butler has over 25 scholarship offers. USC, South Carolina, LSU, Florida, Michigan State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Arizona State, Miami, Florida State, Louisville, Auburn, Alabama, Cal, Washington State are a handful that he named. Although the Irish weren't the first in line Butler is interested in checking out the Irish.

"Notre Dame's a really good team," Butler said. "They have a history of having really good quarterbacks and really good receivers. They're a really good team and one of the best offers that I have. Next year they'll have Jimmy Clausen and I know they'll have a good offense. If I ended up playing there, I'd be playing with a great quarterback that can throw the ball around.

"I really don't have a list of schools right now that I like. I'm interested in anyone that wants to talk to me right now. I'm going to Penn State tomorrow. Then on Tuesday I'll be at Arizona State, and a week from Friday I'll be at Florida. Me and my dad are going to go to Notre Dame this month. If I had known earlier that they were that interested we would have made plans to visit them after we went to Penn State.

"I don't care about distance," he said. "I'll go to Russia if have to play where I want to play. Distance isn't going to come into my decision at all. I'll take all my official visits. I definitely think I'll take a visit to Notre Dame."

Last season Butler had 35 receptions for 680 yards and nine touchdowns.
