When the Notre Dame staff finds a player that they like, they are quick to extend a scholarship offer. One of the latest prospects to receive an offer from the Irish is offensive linemen Khaled Holmes (6-foot-5, 290 pounds).
"Notre Dame did offer me," Holmes responded when asked about his contact with the Irish. "I talked to coach Polian and then I talked to coach Weis and he offered me a scholarship. He said they finished up the last part of the [recruiting] process and watched my film. They said they liked what they saw so they decided to offer me. It's such a great offer to have, because it's such a great program. I was probably more relieved than I was surprised.
"Coach Weis said that because they focus on academics I would be a great fit for the program. Academics have always been important to me so I'm definitely interested in them. It's pretty cool to have an offer from a school that can offer the best of both worlds.
"Every time I get an offer its such a great honor," Holmes said. "Its just great to know that there's a school that wants me to come play football for them."
Holmes adds the Notre Dame offer to Nebraska, Oregon State, Ole Miss, Stanford and USC. Khaled would like to see Michigan step up with an offer, but he's content with the schools already in the mix.
"I'm interested in Michigan because my father played there, but I haven't had much contact with them," Holmes explained. "They haven't called so it isn't a huge deal if they decide not to offer, but being my dad's alma mater it would be nice to have that offer."
Holmes also has ties to USC. His brother Alex played for the Trojans and as of now, USC is the team to beat.
"They are in the lead, but I haven't committed or anything," Khaled replied when ask about his interest in USC. "I like them but it isn't a done deal. I'm just trying to sit back and see what transpires. I want to go through the process with a cool head and make an educated decision. It's a decision I'll live with for the rest of my life so I want to make the right one.
"I went to USC's junior day a couple weeks ago with my teammates and I went to a practice with my friend Blake Ayles."
It will be tough for Notre Dame to pry Holmes from USC, but at this time he at least intends on taking a trip to Notre Dame.
"I plan on taking an official visit to Notre Dame, but I'm not sure when," Holmes said. "I'll take one to Stanford and USC as well. I'm not sure of the others, but I'll probably take all of my visits."
