Hale Is One of the Nation's Top Linebackers

Pennsylvania always produces some of the top prep talent in the country. This year the Pittsburgh area is loaded with top prospects at linebacker. One of the best in the area is Shayne Hale of Gateway High School (Monroeville, Pa.) The standout linebacker has over 30 scholarship offers from the best programs in the nation.

Notre Dame needs to add difference makers on the defensive side of the ball in this recruiting class. Shayne Hale (6-foot-4, 240 pounds) is that type of player and the Irish have made him a priority.

"I get a lot of text messages from Notre Dame," Hale responded when asked about his contact with Notre Dame. "I text them back, but I haven't really talked to them. They told me about their practices and asked me to come out. I'll definitely try to get to one of their spring practices, but if I can't I'll get out there this summer.

"They're definitely a school I'm still interested in. I'm just looking around now though. I don't have any top schools right now."

Hale recently landed an offer from the Florida Gators. He adds that offer to a long list that includes Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Pitt, Penn State, Tennessee, Louisville, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Wisconsin. Shayne has recently taken unofficial visits to Maryland, Virginia and Pitt.

"I went up to Pitt for a practice," Hale said. "I've been to Pitt a lot. They look real good. I'm not sure about any other trips. I need to talk to my coach about that."

As a junior, Hale registered 105 tackles including 58 solo and 13 for loss. He had 15 sacks, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
