Notre Dame hosted several recruits on Wednesday, as the Irish continue to prepare for their annual spring football game. One of three prospects to travel from California was offensive lineman Ryan Dannewitz (6-foot-6, 280 pounds).
"It was awesome," Dannewitz responded when asked about his visit to Notre Dame. "I got to talk to a lot of the coaches. I got to look around the campus and get a feel for everything. I saw Touchdown Jesus and the golden dome. I saw the athletic facilities, and they were awesome. The weight room was fantastic. We went to the locker room and the stadium, which was pretty cool. I really don't know what to say about that [experience], it was crazy. I got to touch the ‘Play Like A Champion Today' sign. It was a unique experience. The whole place is great. The atmosphere is great. I liked it all."
"I watched practice. Coach Weis told me what they were doing in practice and that he was excited that I was there. I got a chance to see how they run things. Everything was moving at a high tempo. They got a lot done in a short amount of time that they had to practice. It was run really well.
"I talked to coach Polian for awhile," Dannewitz said. "Then I got to talk to the offensive line coach, coach Latina. He was good. I like him. He was telling me about their scheme and how they get after it. I know that a lot of the offensive linemen are really young, but they all looked pretty good. [Coach Latina] was working with them and teaching a lot of stuff."
Although the Irish did not extend an offer to Ryan, the Notre Dame staff is very interested in him.
"They talked to my coach about [a possible scholarship offer]," Dannewitz explained. "Coach Weis said that they were going to come down in May and see me. They want me to come to their one-day camp, so that they will have a chance to work with me. It seems like they have a lot of interest.
"I didn't know much about Notre Dame, which is why I came. I'm just trying to get as much information as I can. My interest is high. Notre Dame has a great tradition, great academics and athletics.
"I have offers from Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Colorado," Dannewitz said. "I'm just taking things as they come. I'm trying to visit as many places as I can and I'm trying to talk to all the coaches from all the different schools that are recruiting me."
