Garrett Goebel (6-foot-5, 270 pounds) had scholarship offers from Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Miami, North Carolina State, Arizona State and nearly every school in the Big Ten. He can now add three more big-time programs to his growing list of options.
"Michigan offered yesterday. I got an offer from Tennessee today and I got an offer from Notre Dame about an hour ago," Goebel responded when asked about his recruitment Wednesday evening. "I gave coach Weis my ACT scores the other day and he sent it to their admissions. They felt it was good and they decided to make a move on me. They offered me today and I was pretty excited.
"[Weis] said that I'd be a great fit and they love the way I am. When they saw me in person he thought I was pretty big. I was pretty excited when I got that one. I hope to get out there sometime soon. I want to get to know the coaches a little better."
Goebel obviously had a number of solid options heading into the week. Now that he has offers from the Irish, Volunteers and Wolverines, his decision will be even that more difficult.
"It makes things more complicated," Goebel said of his college decision. "I'm still pretty open. I'm not anyone's guy as of right now.
"I'm going to start to narrow things down more in May and then I hope to have a decision by the start of my season."
