Irish Nab No. 12

Offensive tackle, Lane Clelland of McDonogh School (Owings Mills, MD.) became the second commitment for Notre Dame this week and No.12 overall for the 2008 recruiting class. Notre Dame edged out Michigan, Florida, Maryland and other top programs for Clelland.

Lane Clelland (6-foot-5, 265 pounds) had scholarship offers from Michigan, Florida, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska and Virginia, but he decided that he would accept Charlie Weis' invitation to play football at Notre Dame.

"I did commit to Notre Dame," Clelland responded when reached for comment today. "Thursday night I called coach Weis, coach Latina and coach Powlus, I told them that I'm committing and that I'd made my final decision…finally. They were excited. I talked to all the coaches for about 10 or 15 minutes. It went well.

"They're looking at me as a tackle. It's awesome. I play it now. You can't beat it. I just made the decision based on where I think I fit. I just fit in. I felt real comfortable there. I talked to the players a little bit when I was there… the coaches are awesome. The tradition is great. Everything about Notre Dame is awesome. It's just an awesome atmosphere to play in.

"I just came to a decision. I've been thinking about it for a while and I just came to a decision. I've been thinking about it the last couple months since I had been out there. Its been awhile. I talked to my mom and my brother, my family and just decided that I want to be an Irishman. They were all just happy for me.

"I don't know when I'll get out there, but I'll try to get back out there sometime this summer maybe." Top Stories
