Lewis-Moore Tops 20 Offers

Kapron Lewis-Moore wasn't a big name when the recruiting year started, but that certainly has changed. The standout defensive end from Weatherford High School (Texas) has over 20 scholarship offers, one of which is from Notre Dame.

Notre Dame would like to add a couple more linemen to this recruiting class and one of their top targets is Kapron Lewis-Moore (6-foot-4, 225 pounds).

"Notre Dame is still showing a lot of interest in me," Lewis-Moore responded when asked about his contact with Notre Dame. "I speak with coach Ianello the most. He told me that he's recruiting me as hard as he is any other player. He said there is a receiver from Minnesota (Michael Floyd) that he's recruiting really hard as well.

"Coach Weis was at my practice today. He spoke with my coach, but I didn't get a chanced to talk to him because he came about 10 or 15 minutes after practice started. He stayed for most of the practice and then left about 15 minutes before we finished practice."

Notre Dame already has 12 commitments, which means they have filled more than half of the 2008 recruiting class. Despite the dwindling openings Lewis-Moore isn't in a rush to make his decision.

"I really haven't been paying attention to what commitments Notre Dame has, so that really hasn't been a factor for me," Lewis-Moore explained. "I'm pretty sure if something is close to filling up that they'll let me know what's going on. I haven't had any warnings that I had to commit or my spot would be gone or anything like that.

"I'm just focusing on spring football and working on trying to get better. Probably some time this summer I'll start handling recruiting, but other than that I haven't been too focused on it. I still think about it. I've gotten quite a few offers lately. Tulsa, Iowa, Arizona, Kansas, Washington State, Arkansas, Colorado and Central Florida are my latest. I already had offers from Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Duke, Baylor, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Wisconsin, SMU, Illinois, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Virginia.

"The recruiting process is heating up, but I'm just trying to take it easy and have fun with it," Lewis-Moore said. "I'm still open. If there are any schools that want to make an offer, I'm open to listening to them. I'm not putting any school ahead of any other right now.

"I don't think I'll take any visits this summer, if I do they'll be in-state visits. I don't think I'll get to take a visit [to Notre Dame] this summer, but I'm probably going to take my official visit the day they play Michigan State. That's my open date, so I'm shooting for that day."

As a junior Lewis-Moore collected 50 tackles, six sacks, caused to fumbles and recovered three. He earned second team all-district honors.
