Ethan Johnson Has Set His Travel Plans

The biggest priority for the Irish is to shore up the defensive front. One of the top players in the country is Ethan Johnson from Lincoln High School (Portland, Ore.) Johnson has a scholarship offer from the Irish and he'll be on campus in a month to check out the Notre Dame football program.

Ethan Johnson (6-foot-4, 265 pounds) would go a long way toward solidifying the Irish defensive line recruiting. The standout lineman likes the Irish and he'll be in town to look at the football program in a couple weeks.

"At the end of June I'll be heading over there," Johnson said when asked about his plans to visit Notre Dame. "I want to see what it's like. I want to get a chance to meet the coaches. I don't have any expectations. I haven't even been to the Midwest.

"I'm flying out there because I have a couple great-uncles that live in Ontario, Canada. I only get to go out there every couple years, and I'm going to hit the colleges when I'm out there. I'm going to go to the Michigan camp too. I think its right before Notre Dame's camp."

Johnson is one of the top defensive linemen in the country and he already has scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, Oregon, Oregon State, Colorado, Auburn, Arizona State, Washington, Nebraska, Minnesota and Virginia.

"Cal just offered me," Johnson said. "I'm still getting a lot of mail. I'd love to get an offer from every school in the nation, but I don't really have the time… its just not possible. The more offers I get, the more time I'll end up spending checking into the different schools.

"USC and Notre Dame are recruiting me the hardest. They're two of the best colleges in the nation, so you wouldn't think they'd spend as much time recruiting me as smaller colleges. I think that's kind of interesting. You'd think the other colleges would be trying to recruit me harder.

"I wasn't even going to send my tape to Notre Dame or USC, because I never figured that I'd be recruited by them," Johnson explained. "My brother and I just figured, ‘why the heck not' and I ended up getting an offer from both of them. I never thought I was good enough to go to a school like that.

"I think people think that I'm just going to go to USC or Notre Dame. They're recruiting me hard, and they're two powerhouse programs, so of course you're going to look at them hard, but I' going to look at all the schools. I think they're both great schools, but I want to see Michigan, Auburn, Cal and all these other schools."

Ethan would like to take all five of his official visits in the fall and then make an announcement shortly after completing his trips.
