Guilford likely to vist Notre Dame

Safety is a need area for the Irish this year and Ira Guilford is one of their top prospects. Guilford is from Hoboken NJ and he has over 25 offers and recently received an offer from Notre Dame.

Ira Guilford is 5-11 190 pounds with 4.42 speed. I hear he will likely end up at strong safety because he is such a physical player.

"I just get into the zone and I feel like hitting people. I had a knockout hit in the last game. It's just the way the game is played." Guilford had a good game in his first game this year. He recorded 9 tackles, 1 sach, caused one fumble and also rushed for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns on offense.

Guilford has one visit set so far. He will visit Michigan State on December 13th. "Michigan State is one of the top schools on my list. Ohio State is my leader at this point. Penn State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Boston College are other schools I am looking at. There are others but those are some of the top schools."

"I like Ohio State the most right now. I have been there twice. I like their staff. They have a good tradition and they seem to be going in the right direction. I think I fit in there and there seems to be a chance to play early there."

Ira also likes Michigan State quite a bit as well. "My Boy Tyrell Dortsch is there. We are great friends and he says he likes it there a lot. He is injured right now but he has told me a lot about Michigan State." Guilford said he thinks Michigan State is a place he could fit in as well.

I asked Ira about his offer from Notre Dame. "I just got offered last week. I just started looking at them. I like them and I really like where they are headed. Coach Willingham has them headed in the right direction. I really like Coach Willingham a lot. I spoke with him for a half an hour. He told me how he intends to run this program. We talked about the opportunities that Notre Dame can give me. He is a real genuine person. I know I will visit Notre Dame."

Guilford has also decided what is important to him in choosing a school. "The program is important. The program has to be going in the right direction. I want to feel real comfortable with the staff. The school and academics are also important to me. I need to get a good education. The last thing is playing time. I want to play early so I hope to see a chance to play early at the schools I am looking at."

Ira also said distance is not a problem at all for him or his family. "My Dad actually wanted me to go to Stanford because Coach Willingham was there. Now he wants me to go to Notre Dame."

Comments. Ira plans to set his visits in the next couple of weeks. Notre Dame will be one of his visits and I think they will have a great shot once he visits Notre Dame. Top Stories
