Matt Patchan (6-foot-7, 255 pounds ) recently narrowed his list of schools down to LSU, Miami, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Ole Miss and Notre Dame. Matt has been trying to visit those schools, but he might not be able to get to them all before he starts practice in August.
"I've been to Georgia, LSU, Florida, Florida State and this weekend to Miami," Matt responded when asked about his recruitment. "I've visited five of the schools that I'm still considering. I'm going to try to get to Notre Dame, but I don't have news as far as that goes. I still have some time.
"I've been talking to coach Parmalee and coach Weis, they're the ones from Notre Dame that I mainly talk to. I'd like to get up there, it would be a great place to visit. It'll be tough to take a visit there this summer, but that doesn't mean I won't take an official visit there."
Irish fans won't have to wait long before finding out if Notre Dame will get one of his visits. Matt will be trimming his list down soon.
"Just before practice starts in August, I'm going to narrow it down to the five schools that I want to take my official visits to," Matt said. "I'm going to sit down with my parents and we'll come up with that list. I'm just going to take my visits and then decide what I should do from there.
"I'm going to graduate early. I'm going to wait until December until I make my decision. I want to wait as long as possible, so that I have all the information I need and that I make the right decision.
"I'm looking at competing for a starting spot no matter where I go," Matt explained. "If I go in early I'll get to know the team, get used to the schedule and college life, so I'll have a better chance to do that. I want a chance to show the coaches how I play and what I bring to the table. I want a chance to prove myself, and I want to do that as soon as possible."
