McCarthy Picks Notre Dame

Notre Dame recruiting continues to roll along as Dan McCarthy out of Cardinal Mooney High School (Ohio) announced his decision to attend Notre Dame. McCarthy becomes the 18th member of Notre Dame's 2008 recruiting class.

Just outside of Cardinal Mooney High School, Dan McCarthy (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) announced that he would join his brother Kyle at Notre Dame.

"The recruiting process began for me about ten months ago," McCarthy said as he began his announcement. "In these past ten months I've had the opportunity to visit and to be recruited by some of the finest coaches and universities in the country. From the beginning I have been totally open-minded and tried to listen to what each coach had to say about their programs. I've spent a lot of time traveling to many campuses, which made my decision very difficult. All of the universities have top coaches, and I have so much respect for them and it would be an honor to play for them. I wish them continued success.

"I couldn't be more excited to announce that this next year I'm going to take the field with my brother Kyle at the University of Notre Dame. I've talked to coach Charlie Weis and coaches Corwin Brown and Brian Polian and informed them of my decision. They are excited about this year and the recruiting class that I'll be joining, which is currently rated No.1 in the country.

"During this recruiting process, everything kept leading me back to Notre Dame; the incredible history and traditional, the prestigious degree, the facilities, and the beautiful campus, but mostly the coaches, players and the recruits that I have met. I've felt from the beginning that I had to go to the place that was the best fit for me and I feel this place is Notre Dame. I feel it will best prepare me for the future. My decision is final and I now looked forward to joining my teammates at Cardinal Mooney as we prepare to defend our state championship."
