Notre Dame recruiting continues to roll as, Scout.com's No. 4 ranked middle linebacker and No. 28 overall prospect in the country, Steve Filer (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) committed to play for the Irish. Filer is the fourth linebacker in Notre Dame's recruiting class. He joins Darius Fleming, David Posluzsny and Anthony McDonald to make one of the nations top linebacker classes.
Filer took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame this past weekend, and decided to end his recruitment. Irish Eyes spoke with his father, who confirmed his son's commitment to the Irish.
"I think he just felt comfortable there," Mr. Filer responded when asked about his son's commitment. "I think he really liked coach Brown and all the coaches, and felt it was a good place for him. He just fit in real well there."
As a junior, Filer had 87 tackles and eight sacks. He was one of the first prospects to receive an offer from the Notre Dame coaching staff, and he eventually had scholarship offers from most of the top programs in the country.
"It was real close with Ohio State," Mr. Filer explained. "I think he liked it there, but he felt comfortable at Notre Dame, and Notre Dame was a little closer to home. I know he's thrilled with his decision and to have it out of the way. He can't wait to get up to Notre Dame and get going. You can't go wrong with Notre Dame.
"I'll let Steve tell you more about it though."
You can hear more about Filer's commitment tonight on Power Hour when both he and his father, Steve, will join the show at 7:30 p.m. eastern. Follow this link and then click "Listen" at the top to hear the show.
