Datone Jones Is Considering Official Visits

Notre Dame has a solid group of defensive lineman already committed, but the Irish coaching staff may want to add an additional defensive end to this year's recruiting class. Datone Jones of Compton High School (Calif.) has pledged to UCLA, but the Irish have been keeping an eye on him in case he has a change of heart.

Datone Jones (6-foot-4 , 235 pounds) committed to UCLA in March, but shortly afterward he decided to open his recruitment slightly in order to be certain of his decision. Since that time the Irish have been staying in contact with him.

"I talked to coach Polian the other day," Jones responded when asked about his contact with Notre Dame. "I talk to him a couple times a month. They email me and text me, but it's been hard to get in touch with me. They're recruiting pretty good. Notre Dame has been sending me a lot of information about the school, so I've just been reading all that.

"I want to go to South Bend and check it out. We were just talking about scheduling an official visit. I want to come out for the USC game, but I'm not sure yet. I need to make sure I schedule the visit for when we have a bye week. I want to take my visits during my season."

Jones is a looking a couple other schools, b ut in the end it will be difficult to pull if from the Bruins.

"I wanted to check out Nebraska and Oregon," Jones said. "I'm not sure where else I'm going to visit, but I should know sometime soon. In the next couple weeks I hope to have my visits scheduled.

"I'm still 90 percent with UCLA. Coach Walker said to take some trips and see what else is out there. He said it was okay to take some trips, but to make sure I didn't de-commit on them. I just want to check some other places.

"I talk to UCLA every once in and while, and I go up there for unofficial visits, just to hang around. I've been staying up on UCLA's recruiting, but I haven't been keeping up on other schools.

"I want to have my final decision sometime in the middle of my season," he said.
