Weis Offers Walker

Four-star receiver Deion Walker told Irish Eyes this afternoon that he spoke with Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis last week, and was offered a scholarship. He said the Irish jump right to the front of the pack of schools in the running for the Christchurch, Va., product.

"I like everything they have to offer," Deion Walker said. "It was a great visit when I was up there."

Walker saw Notre Dame's campus for the first time on July 24. He has roughly 50 scholarship offers. He said he likes Notre Dame, Michigan, LSU, USC, Florida State and Nebraska to name a few.

Walker, who also stays in regular touch with Irish assistant coach Ron Powlus and freshman quarterback Jimmy Clausen, is ranked as the 48th best prospect nationally by Scout.com. As a junior, Walker had 47 receptions for 732 yards and eight touchdowns. With 4.45 speed in the 40-yard dash, he had another 300 yards rushing as a quarterback, and as a defensive back, registered 31 tackles, picked off eight passes and broke up another nine. He was named all-state as a receiver, defensive back and kick returner.
