Irish Are Fading

Notre Dame isn't done recruiting offensive linemen this year. The Irish would like to add one more big man to the 2008 recruiting class. Khaled Holmes of Mater Dei High School (Santa Ana, Calif.) is one of their top recruiting targets, but the Irish will need to make a big push in order to sign him.

Notre Dame only has a couple spots remaining for the 2008 recruiting class, and they would like to add another offensive lineman. The Irish have only extended a handful of scholarship offers to linemen and Khaled Holmes (6-foot-5, 290 pounds) is one of the prospects that is still available.

"I'm still talking to Notre Dame, but not as much now that they can't text message," Holmes responded when asked about his contact with the Notre Dame coaches. "It isn't just them, I don't talk many coaches now.

"It's kind of nice not having all the text messages. Now I can think about my decision without a lot of the stuff coming from outside. It's just me and my family now."

Holmes had the Irish among his final four schools, but that may be as close as they come.

"USC and Cal are my top two schools," Holmes said. "I'm still considering Notre Dame and Stanford, but I'll probably end up choosing between those two.

"I like Notre Dame, but I think I've decided that I want to stay in-state. The more I've thought about this the more I realize how important my family is and I'd like to be around them after high school.

"If I went anywhere out of state, Notre Dame would be the school I'd pick," Holmes explained. "I'd still like to take an official visit to Notre Dame. We talked about scheduling one, but I don't have anything for sure."

"I'm not sure when I'll make my decision. I guess I'll know when its right. I'd like to take some of my visits though." Top Stories
