Chris Harper (6-foot-3, 222 pounds) told the Notre Dame coaches that he'd take an official visit to South Bend if they offered him a scholarship and he is true to his word. Notre Dame offered Harper in August and he just made plans for his visit.
"I'm going to take my official visit to Notre Dame on September 21 for the Michigan State game," Harper responded when asked about his pending visits. "Then I'm probably going to go to Cal the next weekend."
Both Cal and Notre Dame are recruiting Harper as an athlete. He'd like to continue his career as a quarterback, but he is considering a position switch. He recently had a chance to speak with Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis about his options.
"I talked to coach Weis [Wednesday]," Harper explained. "We talked about my last game and what position I'd play [at Notre Dame]. He said they might put me at running back as well as wide receiver. He saw my stats from my last game, so he said they might want to use me at running back too. I'd want to play both. If I didn't play quarterback, I'd like to play the slot position. Quarterback would be my first option though.
"I didn't see the Notre Dame game, but hearing about it tells me that they need playmakers and that I might be able to come in there and play."
Illinois, Kansas State, Missouri and Oklahoma State have offered Chris as a quarterback, while Virginia Tech and West Virginia have picked up their interest in him as of late.
In his first game of the 2007 season, Harper had 13 carries for 190 yards and four touchdowns. He was 2-2 passing for 30 yards.
