Irish Extend An Offer To Simon

Although Notre Dame hasn't put the finishing touches on their 2008 recruiting class, the Irish are already looking to build their 2009 recruiting class. Johnny Simon of Cardinal Mooney High School (Youngstown, Ohio) might be one of the top junior prospects in the Midwest, and the Irish let him know that they would like to add him to their program.

The Irish have filled their 2008 recruiting class with several very talented defensive line prospects, but they will need to add depth in order to field a national championship style defense. Johnny Simon (6-foot-3 ,266 pounds) already had scholarship offers from Ohio State, Nebraska, Stanford, and Akron, and he can now add the Irish to that list.

"It came in the mail a few days ago," Simon said of his scholarship offer from Notre Dame. "I was real excited to get it. I'm very interested in them. I just went up to the game this Saturday. I was thinking of heading up for the USC game, but it didn't fit into our schedule.

"Dan [McCarthy]was up there with me. He gave me insight on a lot of stuff, he was real helpful. There are a lot of special people there. There's a lot of tradition. It was a real good experience. "

Simon has the ability to play several positions along the defensive front, and at this point Notre Dame hasn't given him an indication of which position he'd play for the Irish.

"Right now they said they just want me up there and to be part of the family," Simon said. Top Stories
